Evoke Fusion is a fusion partner dance event that brings together the dance communities of NYC across genres by creating an event that ignites freedom, creativity, and connection through the alchemy of fusion partner dancing. Musicality, emotional presence, and fine-tuned connections allow dancers to enter into peak experiences through dance. Enter into the magic of fusion partner dance for your new addiction.
Evoke Dance Socials are for dancers of ALL backgrounds and levels. Fusion partner dancing was born from dancers of all backgrounds getting together and mixing it up. Dancers from WCS, Blues, Fusion, Tango, Zouk, Kizomba, Bachata, Swing & Lindy, Ballroom, and more will find a wide range of music that evokes reaching for different rhythms and figures. Fusion dance has been referred to as the mixed martial arts of social dance. The basic principles of partner dance will ground you in sparking improvisation.
What is the music like? Acoustic, pop, hip hop, blues, afro-beats, kizomba, classical, instrumental, EDM, R&B, swing, jazz, blues, soul, and Latin dance-based rhythms for fusion from tango, zouk, bachata, salsa.
Who we are is in our dance. We come together as dancers to belong, to play, to be fierce, to be free, to be our authentic selves. We share our stories through our movement and co-create new ones in dance partnership. Evoke Dance is an inclusive space where dancers respect one another, and by virtue of this attain the level of freedom of expression, spontaneity, connection and creativity in a warm and welcoming community.

Class Description: Urban Kiz for Fusion - Intro to Kizomba/Urban Kiz. Dance warm ups with some of the elements, to help execute some of the Kiz moves with ease & for social dancing. Intro to basic Kizomba steps with & without partners. Connecting/executing the steps with music emphasizing on good embrace/Connection to execute some of the Kizomba moves.
Focusing on Tension & intension, energy, musicality, playfulness & a few tips help dance Kizomba socially!.
And more importantly, how to merge Kiz with other dances( Kiz fusion)
Evoke Fusion lessons➡️ are focused on enhancing our dance connection and expression and inspiring the fusion of different dance forms. The rich tapestry of culture, rhythms, and dancers make the language of fusion dancing irreverent, spontaneous, and full of creativity and joy. We encourage you to join if you want to explore other dance forms, level up your technique, or perhaps learn to lead or follow if you are predominantly in one role or the other. Dancers of all levels are welcome.

" My world of dancing is one that is filled with so much love & compassion, kindness, peace & harmony, humble human connections, meditation, celebration and good energy. I look forward to sharing my love of Kizomba with dancers at Evoke Fusion on October 5th at 7pm. My dancing is deeply rooted in my Ghanaian-African origin, & upbringing where we grew up surrounded by popular Traditional music & dancing like "Adowa" and "Kpanlogo, & "Borborbor. Adowa(from Ashanti Kingdom Tribe is a graceful, symbolic dance performed at celebrations & solemn occasions, using swaying movements & gestures to convey meaning and honor traditions. My early childhood & teen years found me engaging in dance battles in hip-hop music, Bricks dancing, while we compete to see who can do Bobby Brown & Michael Jackson moves better , among other traditional dancing! . Most of my childhood upbringing was influenced by music and dancing in my community & environment, even during storytelling at home & in the school settings ( Folktales & Folklores). We dance our hearts out & make merry!. Many years later, I rediscovered my love & passion for dancing when I got settled here in the States! Around the year 2011, I found myself grooving to Latin music. I first discovered & fell in love with Kizomba/Urban Kizomba at a Salsa-Bachata festival in 2019 And since then I've been dancing Kizomba all over the world. Now I am mixing in some Tango, and it all fits perfectly into fusion dancing. I aspire to put a smile on someone's face & make everyone feel welcome and someone's day a bit better!..Dancing is one of the most precious & priceless gifts God has blessed me with!. Dancing for me is pure joy and the most beautiful & peaceful place to be in body, mind, heart & soul."
DJ Justin Johnson began his dance journey with Contra and gleefully spun in circles for a few years before falling in love with both Blues and Fusion. Over the last few years, he’s continued to expand his dance horizons with WCS and Kizomba.
As a DJ he brings music outside the norm of what's often played in fusion (ie - more afro rhythms, funk, etc.), and weaves that in with more familiar sounds to get the party going. He’s also been playing with live mixing between songs for a little bit of added spice and interaction with the energy on the floor throughout his sets!
DJ GiaSoul (Andrea Gia) enjoys creating dance events and with musicscapes that invite dancers to unfold in their freedom of expression, and enjoy playful, sensual, and soulful connections through partner dance. As a multi-genre dancer and DJ, her music selections invite you to express yourself with music of diverse rhythms and evocative themes. Known for her signature mix of deep thumping grooves, evocative lyrical scapes, playful, sassy, and soft, sultry beats is the spice that makes her sets so diverse with something for everyone. Andrea strives to evoke a soulful journey for partner dancers to engage with shared presence and connection, creative artistry, playfulness, joy, and freedom of expression. With multiple artistic disciplines as a teacher and performer for over 20 years, Andrea is the organizer of Evoke Fusion Dance socials and workshops. She was a co-organizer and started Pearl Dive with Arielle and Brendan for 2.5 years, and a member of the Pearling Dance Collective. Andrea has also taught and DJed internationally.
